Throbbing Gristle were an experimental music group from the UK. They became pioneers of Industrial music, whose name is generally associated with their label, Industrial Records. The band formed in 1975, evolving from a performance art group called COUM Transmissions, which had been around since 1969.

"Tonight we're going to do a one hour set called Music From The Death Factory. It’s basically about the post-breakdown of civilization. You know, you walk down the street and there’s a lot of ruined factories and bits of old newspapers with stories about pornography and page three pinups, blowing down the street and you turn a corner past the dead dog and you see old dustbins. And then over the ruined factory there’s a funny noise." - Genesis P-Orridge, 1976
